When this Lytham based manufacturer of specialist automotive components were constructing a new 7,500 sq. feet warehouse for storing their raw materials, they were keen to minimise their energy costs and carbon emissions.  

Heat Pump Case Study for Helical TechnologyThe company had identified an air to water heat pump installation as the most practical and cost effective solution and invited Ensol to design a suitable system in conjunction with the heat pump manufacturer, Global Energy Systems Ltd.   
Heat loss calculations determined that 58KW would be needed to maintain a minimum background temperature of 10oC to protect the materials from deterioration in cold weather, when the outside temperature was -4oC.

A Global Energy Systems Eco Air Boiler was installed and this delivers hot water to two Ensol Downflow Warm Air Heaters via a system of flow and return pipework. The heaters incorporate a fan and heat exchanger and prevent wasteful heat build-up under the roof by continually recirculating warm air from high level.

Helical Technology Heat Pump Case StudyThe Eco Air Boiler heat pump is situated outside in the open and works by ‘cooling’ the outside air in cold weather and the upgraded heat removed is used to heat water.   The system uses less than 20KW of electricity but delivers up to 60KW of heat into the building.
The company have now experienced a complete winter season using the system and have been pleased with the heating performance and very low running costs.   Despite temperatures well below freezing, the system performed well and this is mainly down to the fact that the Eco Air Boiler systems are capable of operating with outside temperatures as low as -20oC!
