natural ventilation

ENSOL Clear Opening, Natural Ventilation System installed in the central roof Atria in a telecommunications manufacturing workshop.

The Clear Opening Ventilators are manufactured from corrosion resistant, lightweight aluminium and fitted with double skin, translucent louvres to blend in with the building structure and, from the variety of sizes available, have been made to fit exactly into the existing glazing bars.

Control is by an extended, small bore pneumatic system from the ventilators down to a central Control Panel sited within the workshop at hand level.

The primary function of the system is to provide day-to-day general ventilation of the building which suffers from excessive heat in the working environment created by a build up of plant and solar heat.

The ventilators are opened manually to allow the warm, vitiated air to be extracted to atmosphere using the natural buoyancy of warm air at high level under the roof.

The controls include a Rain Sensing Device to automatically close the ventilators in the event of rain via an external sensing head. The sensing head includes a heating element to quickly dry off excess moisture and re-open the ventilators.

This style of ventilation is not just suitable as a Day-to-Day ventilation system but also as an Automatic Fire Ventilator for the protection of people and property.

The controls include a fail safe, fusible link release (optional) to open the ventilators in the event of a fire to allow smoke and hot gases out of the building to keep the inside, low level areas clear of smoke for emergency evacuation of the building.

The controls can also be enhanced to include electrical links to Smoke Detection and Fire Alarm Systems to open the ventilators in the vital, early stages of a fire.

Clear opening louvred natural extract ventilators provide heat and release and improved daylighting levels in this manufacturing facility

Benefits
  • Natural Cooling - warm air is released at high level and cool air enters at lower levels.
  • Negligible running costs - environmentally friendly.
  • Self regulating - the ventilation increases as the internal temperature rises.
  • Silent operation.
  • Natural daylighting (even in closed position with translucent option).
  • Various control options - manual, electric or pneumatic.
  • Weathered ventilation options allow ventilation in all weathers.
  • Low maintenance required - occasional cleaning only.
  • Smoke ventilation benefit - Protection of building structure, occupants and contents in fire emergencies.

Typical installations

Pneumatically operated clear opening natural extract ventilators provide all year round ventilation and improved day lighting in this textile weaving facility.
